Turkey and Ham Overload

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Way too much food here, but hey it's only one day! Well for a couple more weeks then it's Christmas Day!

Wednesday night Richard and I and my two Siblings went to Guns and Hoses. We had a blast. For those of you who don't know what that is let me explain...... Guns and Hoses is a fundraising event for Backstoppers. Backstoppers is an organization that provides monitary, emotional, spiritual, and physical assistance in the case of a fireman, police officer, or emergency medical worker's death in the line of duty. This organization is a tremendous blessing to those in this area. So every year on the night before Thanksgiving is Guns N Hoses. It's a huge fundraising event to help Backstoppers. It's a part of the Amateur boxing league and it's firemen against the police. There are 17 matches and it's so much fun. I never thought I would have a good time at a boxing tournament, but the energy is unreal. There were over 18,000 people there and you had to root on your team. The boxers are from all over St.Louis area and surrounding Illinois towns as well. The best fight of the night was probably the women fighting. We had to laugh at ourselves when it was over, since you are so revved up, you just want to fight someone. You want to be a part of it too!! :) I actually call this event the Mating Ground since it's about 5 guys for every girl in the audience and the girls that are in attendance are probably not of the highest caliber. Obviously I am not talking about myself!! :)
Thursday we dropped the transmission on our vehicle. Talk about a bummer.
I also ate myself into oblivion.
Thursday night we had an outreach dinner at church. We made to go meals for people who had to work and delivered them. We had a blast! I loved this and can't wait to do it again!
Friday...no shopping for me. That whole new transmission thing.
Saturday....We finished putting up the Christmas that we started on Friday. Only one ornament broke in the process. And wouldn't you know it was the Harding one. And no snide remarks from you ACU readers! :)
Sunday..Small group at our house. Well they call it that but it's not really small anymore. Only one incident this week. A child (older) somehow managed to jump through the back sliding screen door. I'm going to have to take out a small group insurance policy for damages. Can you do that? Just kidding. That's the risk you take having people over.
And today....just sitting at work thinking about that silly transmission. (thank goodness my mom and dad let us borrow another car!, Pray Richard's keeps going until mine is returned!!)

Guns and Hoses sounds like so much fun!! And what a great idea! That stinks about your transmission! What a blessing that your parents are close by! I won't make any comments about your broken Harding ornament...:)

I agree, Guns and Hoses sounds really cool! Sorry about the transmission thing, it stinks having car trouble. But it probably saved you from lots of cRaZy people shopping!

Liz-I don't honestly think I would have gone shopping anyway. Everytime I take the kids there anymore, I have to explain why "people aren't pleasing God by the way they act" to them. The way that people talk now in public and the shirts they wear (now that Ashlyn can read) are so offensive, I've become a huge fan of online shopping. Our local stores don't allow the offensive wear but the mall doesn't have a ban on it. So I take the kiddos to Target and the grocery store but we stay away from the mall.

Guns and Hoses, are you sure you aren't in AR?:) Just kidding, sounds like ya'll had a ton of fun. I am glad ya'll had a great Thanksgiving minus the car issue!! Praying it gets fixed soon and nothing happens to Richard's car, car trouble stinks!! It seemed like my mom made everything but chocolate pie, maybe for New Years!!

Hey girl, sorry to hear about the car. Believe me I know all about it. However, you have so much to be thankful for. I know that I am thankful for you and your family. I am so glad that you had so much fun Wed. night. Did you punch Richard? Hope you didn't hurt him. Tell the family hello and we miss ya'll. Love ya!!!

Melanie, I know what mean. I never shop the day after Thanksgiving. It's just not worth it to me. I prefer to just stay home all day that day. And I know what you mean about clothing. It's not as bad for boys, but I remember when Ashley hit that stage of leaving little girls and into apparently "mature" girls. Seems like you go from cute to trashy all in one size. And it sometimes gets hard to explain why Christian girls don't wear those kinds of things when they see everyone else wearing them and sometimes even Christian girls wearing them. I always loved Target at that age. They are more grown up, but still have some cute to them!!

I think Richard should have gotten in there and laid the smack down on one of those firefigthers! Just joking, I know it is all in fun. Sorry about the transmission. Tell Richard to bring a squad car home. Then the kids can play with the siren. We sure do miss you guys. Tell your parents hello for us. We love you guys.

Guns and Hoses sounds neat. I only wish you'd have included pictures of this event along with those "women of low caliber." Funny. That sounds like it would be an exciting event to attend.

Sorry about your car. We've become fans of online shopping as well. Getting out is just too hard sometimes.

I should have brought my camera, but no one brings bags or purses. There's way too much security and bag checks, so we leave all of our stuff at home. I'm hoping to get pictures from someone else. When the women were fighting the announcer was saying,"That's someone's mama! That's someone's mama!" It was a blast. I really hope to go every year!
